Springer Spaniel is a Intelligent Dog, Lifelong Friend

English Springer Spaniels are intelligent dogs who catch on to new things easily. Being highly enthusiastic, eager to please, loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented makes the Springer an ideal companion for both city and country life. Many owner find humor in their energetic and playful animals that bring a smile to their faces. Springers are excellent all around dogs. Good training can bring excellent results in many fields, including agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are the perfect choice for families because they are so wonderful with children. Children should be supervised with all breeds of dogs.

Springers are quite friendly, and eager to please their owners. Some people have compared their temperament to the popular Golden Retriever. They are happy to go home and lie around the house if that is what their families are doing at the time. They are very flexible and acclimate easily to various activity levels, as long as they are allowed to be with people as much as possible. Being a long breeder of a variety of puppies, we can attest to their absolute friendliness.

As a breed, the English Springer Spaniel is a medium sized sporting dog, and can weigh anywhere from 35-55 pounds at adulthood. Springers can remain in good health most of their lives which can span 10 to 14 years. Springers which are field bred have shorter hair and are generally more active than the show type Springers. Field bred Springers have docked tails, but their tails are docked longer than the show Springers so their tails are still functional as an alert signal while hunting.

A purebred English Springer Spaniel has a coat color of either liver and white or black and white. The tri-color coloration of black, liver, and white, is quite rare and will usually occur when the sire and dam are both tri-color. These are easily recognized by the white flash that runs down the middle of their faces.

If you need a good hunting dog, with plenty of energy, who is ready to sniff out some ‘game’, English Springer Spaniels are the breed for you. Springers love the water and would enjoy spending the entire day outside with their owners as they are not especially affected by weather. Because they are an old breed, they have been a favorite canine for many years. These canines are often regarded as one of the oldest and best established gun dog and hunting breeds.
